Accounting Jobs to be in High Demand

With the recent expansion of the US economy and small business growth, demand for accounting professionals has outpaced supply.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor statistics, the growth in demand relative to supply can mostly be attributed to replacement needs. It's not that the total number of job openings in accounting is growing, but rather, that clercks and financial service employees are likely to transfer to other occupations or leave the labor force in the coming years.

In addition to the large numbers of job openings made available by current accountings leaving their post, the financial accounting occupation a large share in the overall US economy. With every organization, small or large, needing some financial acumen, there are sure to be plentiful job openings, including both temporary and part-time work.

As a result of these trends, it's becoming increasingly difficult for companies to identify and recruit talented accountants and bookkeepers to their staffs. Firms looking to hire talented workers are having to handle recruiting in more innovative ways than ever before.

Accountants and bookkeepers who can handle a broader range of challenges and tasks have become much more desirable to major firms that individual clerks with special capabilities and limitations. Meanwhile, according to US labor trends, demand for full-service bookkeepers should rise for those who can successfully fulfill the varied roles of accountanting, financial services from payroll to billing. Certified bookkeepers and professionals with several years of experiences will be in the best condition to earn the highest salaries and most coveted positions.

While demand for talented workers who can deal with more a more complex regulatory environment as well as more sophisticated accounting software and processes has grown, there are also circumstances that tend to lower demand for accounting professionals. While a growing economy does generate an increase in financial transactions, bookkeeping, and accounting activities, which requires fewer clerical workers, we are also experiencing a major shift which produces negative pressure and the demand for clerical workers. The continuing growth in technological innovation, combined with the ongoing spread of systems and accounting software that automates clerical work has the impact of lifting worker productivity.

In addition, organizations continue to consolidate their bookkeeping and accounting services, thus lowering demand for tax preparation, accounting, and auditing clerks.

Despite these indicators that suggest demand for accountants will grow conservatively, US Department of Labor statistics indicate that employment of accountants and auditors will grow faster than the average for all occupations, between now and 2014.
